Woven Labels

If you’re looking for something soft and shiny, that has a vintage look, you might be interested in satin woven labels.  Satin does not weave small details and lettering as well as damask labels and has more distinct weave. Satin polyester threads weave the background, while regular damask polyester threads are used to weave the text and design on your label.

Why choose satin woven labels over damask?  Good question. Satin is the same price as damask, so making the choice can be difficult. Most people who choose satin prefer the look and feel of the satin weave over the damask. If you are making vintage inspired clothing or accessories, satin would be a good fit. It’s also great for infant apparel. If you want a label with lots of color and detail, satin woven labels might not be right for you, as you are limited in background color options.

Colors, Size, and Cutting

For satin woven labels, the only colors available for the background are white, off-white and black.

Keep into consideration that the background color is included when counting the amount of colors for satin woven labels. These are all threads woven together on a loom, so even a white or black background is a thread color.

We have a large variety of colors to choose from which are closely matched to Solid Coated or Uncoated Pantone numbers.

There is a maximum of eight colors for woven labels. The amount of colors in your label also affects price. Please ask a sales rep for more information.

You can do any size label you want, but size over a certain point does change the price. A sales rep can help you decide which size works best for your product and budget.

Satin woven labels are cut with a heat knife or sonic laser, which adheres the threads together to prevent fraying.

If you don’t want to sew your labels on, you can produce satin woven labels with adhesive on the back. They can come with either heat (iron-on) adhesive or stick adhesive, which is pressure sensitive. The heat adhesive is completely permanent while the stick adhesive has a strong bond, but will eventually come off.

You can also die-cut satin woven labels to any shape, if you want a label that really stands out.

If you are not familiar with Taffeta woven labels, please ask for a FREE sample pack from one of our sales representatives. Taffeta is the most economical woven label available and is priced lower than damask and satin. Taffeta labels are not as sturdy as the other woven labels, but if you are looking for a nice, inexpensive label to put on the side of bags, hats, scarves, etc., taffeta woven labels could be perfect for your needs.

When do I use taffeta woven labels over damask or satin?  Taffeta polyester threads are used for the background, while damask polyester threads weave the design. While taffeta has more background color options than satin, the options are more limited than damask. If you want to match a very specific background color to a Solid Coated or Un-coated Pantone number, then damask would be best.Taffeta is an anomaly. It’s is not so great for weaving small details in artwork, but can weave small letters pretty decently.  Also, taffeta tends to be the scratchiest of all of the woven labels, so if it’s touching skin, we do not recommend this weave.

However, taffeta also dries very quickly, so if you produce swimsuits or towels, taffeta woven labels can be a great option.

The sewing application for taffeta woven labels depends mainly on the fold (or lack thereof) that you choose for your label. To see the different fold types, please follow this link Woven Labels. If you are utilizing a sewing contractor in lieu of sewing these on yourself, you will want to contact your sewing contractor to see if one fold application is more expensive than the other. Price might play a role in your decision.
